Models Own latest collection collaborates with Hed Kandi. All I know about Hed Kandi is that it’s something to do with dance music, to be honest I’m not interested in that at all, I couldn’t care less, but I am interested in the Models Own Hed Kandi nail collection! The collection includes five polishes; ‘Beach Party’ (a tangerine bright), ‘Balearic Cool’ (a bright, sky/swimming pool blue), ‘Disco Heaven’ & ‘Ibiza Mix’ (glitter top coats), ‘Hedonist’. While at the shops (I was supposed to be buying groceries) I grabbed ‘Hedonist’ and ‘Ibiza Mix’ (and I am kicking myself for not getting ‘Beach Party’ too).
First up, ‘Hedonist.’ It’s a bright summery neon, and I apologise for not capturing this polish in it’s full neon glory in my images. It was, as neons typically are, impossible to accurately represent with imagery. Hopefully you’ll take my word for it that it’s even more insanely bright in real life. It’s not my normal shade, I had a neon polish phase while I was doing my degree (6 years ago now would you believe) but this is that almost red yet almost orange, but always awesome, sort of neon. It’s intense but in a gorgeous way.
I applied two coats because I was having a particularly clumsy day, which combined with my short nails of late just led to messiness – apologies. The second coat smooths the finish out, but you could possibly get away with one coat as it’s quite a thick cream polish with decent coverage. the finish without a topcoat is that semi-matte/satin type of finish that I find a lot of neons have. With or without a top coat, it’s pretty either way.
‘Ibiza Mix’ is a clear based multi-coloured glitter. So far I can see medium hex glitter in gold, teal, copper and pink, and small hex glitter in blue, pink, gold and copper. If you can spot another colour please let me know! It’s not the sort of combination of glitter colours that I would normally go for, but I like it. The mix of colours means it looks good over all sorts of bases, and one coat gives a good smattering of glitter. As with all glitters of this nature it’s a balancing act between applying in a traditional sense, and a ‘dabbing’ application, but that’s easy enough as it has a good density of glitter pieces.
